What is a switching power supply
A switching power supply, also known as an exchange power supply or switching converter, is a high-frequency electrical energy conversion device.
A switching power supply is a power supply that uses modern power electronics technology to control the ratio of the on-time and off-time of the switching tube, maintaining a stable output voltage. It is generally composed of a pulse width modulation (PWM) control IC and a MOSFET.
A switching power supply is in contrast to a linear power supply. Its input end directly converts alternating current into direct current through rectification, and then under the action of a high-frequency oscillation circuit, the current is controlled to turn on and off by the switching tube to form a high-frequency pulse current. With the help of an inductor (high-frequency transformer), a stable low-voltage direct current is output.

Advantages of SiC device application
Switching power supplies are relatively new types of power supplies, featuring high efficiency, light weight, adjustable voltage levels, and large output power. Since the size of the magnetic core of the transformer is inversely proportional to the square of the switching power supply's operating frequency, the higher the frequency, the smaller the magnetic core. Using SiC devices can reduce the volume of the inductor, thereby reducing the weight and size of the switching power supply.
SiC power devices, with their advantages such as high voltage tolerance, high temperature resistance, high frequency tolerance, and miniaturization, are widely used in switching power supply fields such as communication base station power supply, UPS power supply, household appliances, industrial power supply, and LED power supply.

The development trend of switching power supplies
Switching power supplies, characterized by their small size, light weight and high efficiency, are widely used in almost all electronic devices and are an indispensable power supply method in the rapidly developing information technology industry today.
With the arrival of the "low-carbon era" aiming at carbon peak and carbon neutrality, electronic devices tend to become smaller, thinner and more energy-efficient, further driving the growth of the market size of switching power supplies. In the future, switching power supplies will continue to innovate through technologies such as high frequency, digitalization, modularization, integration and greenization, and the application scale of silicon carbide (SiC) power devices in switching power supplies will also expand further.
